StudioPress Child Themes. Hacks and Tricks.

lifestyle-2It is not a secret that before installation of a new theme, it is necessary to adapt it under your own blog. Maybe the template is very good, but it is rare when completely meets the needs and preferences of the blogger. After all the developer of a template is guided by broad masses of bloggers, but each blogger wants to have personaly designed blog. For permission of this contradiction usually used “individualization of template”, i.e. little changes of style attaching different useful and useless improvements and modifications.

Recently I bought a new template – Lifestyle Child 2.0.1 by StudioPress, based on the Genesis framework. The new version of the template Lifestyle Child finally merged with its twin-theme named Church Child and has undergone significant changes in style. Now it is more minimalistic template, but still very functional. You can verify this by looking at the design of my (this) blog, it uses a template Lifestyle Child.

Reincarnation of Simple Counters

FeedBurner Awareness API is dead! It’s dead, despite the assurances of the development team of Google and related to this, the hopes of millions of bloggers around the world. This means that the number of subscribers to FeedBurner we will not see in any way. And Simple Counters no exception. A pity!

Thanks to the user from India – he prompted a very constructive idea. And the idea is that – replace FeedBurner counter to Facebook counter. This idea I liked, and some time to tinker with the Facebook SDK, I was able to revive the plugin.

As you already understand, the top button changed – now instead FeedBurner counter will display Facebook counter.

Setting counter Facebook is more difficult than FeedBurner settings, so if you intend to use this plugin, please pay careful attention to the information below.

Using filters of Simple Counters

Since version 1.1.17 of WordPress plugin Simple Counters were added two filters for possibility of your own localization of badge phrases. Why filters? Why not parameters? Because different languages have different number of plural forms and rules of using these forms. It means that we don’t know how many plural forms we need to save as parameters. Filters are better in this case because programmer can independently define number of plurals and rules of their using.

SAM. How it works.

Ads Place is rotator object. Each Ads Place consists of the default (patch) ad and a set of contained ads (not required).
Each Contained Ad object has a set of logical rules that defines where this object can be displayed. Default (Patch) Ad will be displayed only if any of Contained Ads can not be displayed on current page by defined it’s own rules.

WordPress plugin Simple Ads Manager

AdvertismentUntil recently I used the plugin “Advertising Manager”. However, I am not quite satisfied the set of its capabilities. For example, the inability to display scheduled advertisements, or the inability to display ads in the posts only certain categories. Etc.

That’s why I wrote my own plugin to control the advertising on the blog – Simple Ads Manager. I tried to create a plugin that will satisfy most requests of any blogger to manage advertising on the blog. And I think I managed it.

Simple Ads Manager is easy to use plugin providing a flexible logic of displaying advertisements.
